LOUISVILLE, KY (July 28, 2017) – Charah®, LLC, a total solutions company providing unparalleled service and innovation for the coal-fired power generation industry, has received a total of nine prestigious awards from the North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL) for an outstanding record of employee safety. This is the sixth consecutive year that Charah has been recognized by NCDOL for its safety record.
In June 2017, Charah was recognized for its safety record for its projects at Duke Energy’s Marshall Steam Station in Catawba County, North Carolina for the fifth consecutive year, at Duke Energy’s Allen Steam Station in Gaston County, North Carolina for the fourth consecutive year, at Duke Energy’s Asheville Plant in Skyland, North Carolina for the fourth consecutive year, at Duke Energy’s Belews Creek Steam Station in Stokes County, North Carolina for the third consecutive year, at Duke Energy’s Riverbend Steam Station in Gaston County, North Carolina for the second year and at Duke Energy’s Sutton Plant in Wilmington, North Carolina.
All sites received a Gold-level or Silver-level Certificate of Safety Achievement, the state’s highest safety awards, in recognition of Charah’s outstanding safety and health efforts and the promotion of safe working conditions in 2016.
In April 2017, three other Charah projects received a Certificate of Safety Achievement for outstanding safety and health efforts and the promotion of safe working conditions in 2016 – Duke Energy’s Roxboro Steam Plant in Roxboro, North Carolina for the sixth consecutive year, Duke Energy’s Cliffside Steam Station in Shelby, North Carolina for the fourth consecutive year and Charah’s structural fill project at Brickhaven Mine in Chatham County, North Carolina for the second year.
This annual awards program, run by the NCDOL, recognizes private and public companies that achieve and maintain good safety. Each year the state awards more than 3,000 certificates to companies around the state. In order to qualify, each company must have had no fatalities during the calendar year at the site or location for which the award was given and also must have maintained an incidence rate at least 50% below the average for its particular industry group. Awards were presented by North Carolina Commissioner of Labor Cherie Berry.
